Basic Information
Dr. Shai M. Rozen, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon based at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Rozen is internationally recognized for his expertise in treating facial paralysis and synkinesis, as well as performing complex reconstructive and cosmetic surgeries of the face and breast. His practice is distinguished by a multidisciplinary approach that combines surgical precision, innovative techniques, and compassionate care.
As Director of the Facial Reanimation Program and the Microsurgery and Breast Fellowship at UT Southwestern, Dr. Rozen leads a team of specialists dedicated to restoring facial function and symmetry for patients affected by paralysis due to trauma, congenital conditions, or neurological disorders. His work in facial reanimation includes procedures that address eyelid asymmetry, brow ptosis, and impaired smile dynamics. These surgeries are tailored to each patient’s unique anatomy and functional needs, with the goal of achieving natural movement and appearance.
Dr. Rozen also treats synkinesis—a condition where facial muscles contract involuntarily due to misdirected nerve regrowth. His approach involves both surgical and non-surgical interventions to retrain muscle coordination and improve facial balance. Patients from across the U.S. and abroad seek his expertise, often after years of living with the physical and emotional challenges of facial nerve disorders.
In addition to facial procedures, Dr. Rozen performs breast reconstruction for patients recovering from mastectomy. His microsurgical techniques allow for precise tissue transfer and natural contouring, helping patients regain confidence and comfort. He also specializes in head and neck reconstructive surgery, addressing defects caused by cancer, trauma, or congenital anomalies.
Dr. Rozen’s clinic operates within a collaborative framework, involving neurotologists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, radiologists, and rehabilitation specialists. This integrated model ensures that patients receive comprehensive evaluations and coordinated care under one roof. The clinic is designed to minimize wait times and streamline treatment planning, especially for patients traveling from distant locations.
Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Rozen is deeply involved in academic medicine. He serves as Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Co-Director of the Adult Craniofacial Fellowship at UT Southwestern. His research focuses on improving outcomes in facial reanimation and microsurgery, and he has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals. His contributions have helped shape modern approaches to facial nerve repair and reconstructive surgery.
