Dr. Alex A. Kane, M.D., FACS, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatric plastic and craniofacial surgeon based in Dallas, Texas, affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health. With over two decades of experience, Dr. Kane is widely recognized for his expertise in treating complex craniofacial conditions in children, including congenital anomalies, traumatic injuries, and developmental deformities

As Division Director of Pediatric and Craniofacial Surgery at Children’s Health and Vice Chairman of Plastic Surgery at UT Southwestern, Dr. Kane leads a multidisciplinary team focused on delivering comprehensive care to pediatric patients. His clinical specialties include cleft lip and palate repair, craniosynostosis surgery, and facial trauma reconstruction, procedures that require both technical precision and a deep understanding of pediatric anatomy and development.
Dr. Kane’s approach to care is rooted in innovation and collaboration. He co-developed patented devices to assist infants with cleft palate in breastfeeding, and another for bone lengthening and reshaping in craniofacial surgery
. These innovations reflect his commitment to improving surgical outcomes and enhancing quality of life for young patients.
In addition to surgical care, Dr. Kane is deeply involved in craniofacial imaging research. He founded the Analytical Imaging and Modeling (AIM) Center at Children’s Medical Center, which utilizes 2D, 3D, and 4D imaging to study and improve treatment outcomes in pediatric plastic surgery. This technology allows for more accurate diagnosis, surgical planning, and post-operative evaluation.
Dr. Kane also treats ear deformities, vascular anomalies, and pediatric breast conditions, offering reconstructive solutions that support both physical and emotional development. His practice emphasizes family-centered care, ensuring that parents are actively involved in decision-making and that children receive age-appropriate support throughout their treatment journey.
Educated at Dartmouth College, Dr. Kane completed his general and plastic surgery residencies at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He pursued advanced fellowships in cleft and craniofacial surgery at Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan and craniofacial imaging at the National Institutes of Health. Prior to joining UT Southwestern, he served as Director of the Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Institute at St. Louis Children’s Hospital
